Just saw davesaddiction’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and decided I should share these. I made them over Thanksgiving. I had never used a lathe before, but it’s definitely something I need to get into.
Both of those are made of Bubinga, and African hardwood. I think I’m going to try acrylic or one of these laminated blanks people use for duck calls.

If you feel like making something in a simple shape, like the one above, with that purple, and blue/grey laminate wood, with a 12x1.25 insert; you just let me know.

I’ll let you know....It will probably be a while. I don’t have a lathe, I did those on my fathers. I’m not sure when the next time I’m going to get back out there is.

I’m sure you already know this but the lathe is the most dangerous tool in any shop, with chainsaws coming in on number two. Those look great though.
Let me know if you do any more and want something burned into them. I’ve been doing some custom pyrography when I can and I would be more than happy to work out some sort of trade if you want.

I always learned the table saw was the most dangerous tool in the shop...lol. I was wearing a dust mask and face shield the whole time. Don’t worry.:)
Funny you should mention the chain saw though. The other thing I did over Thanksgiving was cut some trees down for my dad. My brother and I had quite a scare when we were doing it. We rented a 70’ boom lift to be able to top the trees, and one cut almost killed us. At full boom extension we cut a rather large limb, and even properly wedging it, it broke 4 ft away from our cut, twisted and fell on the basket. The basket dropped about 5 feet instantly and my brother who was making the cut fell down. I pushed the saw away from his leg as the basket was rebounding and it slammed us both pretty hard. Definitely a code brown moment.

Definitely a very cool tool. My dad’s is a Shopsmith with digital RPM control. Pretty neat piece. What I really want though is a metal lathe. Oh the things I could make with that...

Oh, and do you have any examples of your work? I might be interested in that.

I’ve been slow to get stuff up, but I should be picking up the pace soon and plenty of stuff will be posted next week (couldn’t give up what Christmas presents were).

Nice!
Princess Auto (a store like Harbor Freight up here in Canada) has a small metal lathe on sale occasionally. I've heard of guys using the lathe to make parts for itself to make itself more accurate.
